For the Second Year in a Row, The Penny Hoarder Has Been Named the No. 1 Fastest-Growing Private Media Company

We’re excited to announce The Penny Hoarder has been named the No. 1 fastest-growing private media company in America for the second year in a row!

Inc. magazine has once again recognized The Penny Hoarder on its annual Inc. 5000 list. In addition to being named the fastest-growing private media company, we’ve been named the No. 1 fastest-growing company in the Tampa metro area. Our rank also increased, from No. 32 in 2016 to No. 25 this year.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team -- every member has a role in this!” said Lizabeth Cole, director of media relations and communications. “We want to say thank you to our readers, social media fans and partners.”

The Penny Hoarder CEO, Kyle Taylor, founded the company in Dec. 2010 as an accountability blog. It’s expanded over the years to become one of the largest personal finance websites with 16 million monthly readers. We reported $20.5 million in revenue in 2016 and a three-year growth of 9,396%, as recorded in Inc.

Bucking the trend of other top media companies, The Penny Hoarder remains 100% bootstrapped.

When Inc. asked about VC funding, Taylor told the magazine, “We’re extremely grateful that the company has remained bootstrapped so far. It’s allowed me to stay focused on the product rather than fundraising, and the freedom to make your own decisions is priceless.”

And the best thing about being a founder? “There’s a daily fulfillment that I never experienced from a 9-to-5 job,” he responded.
